High-power generation power plant

AfricaApplication description
For high-powered power plants where generators are in constant operation, it is advisable to divide the power plant into several segments, to isolate production in the event of a general failure on one segment, and thus maintain emergency power production.
Each segment regroups several generators paralleled on a common bus. The common buses are connected by a circuit breaker called a « bus tie-breaker ». When the tie breakers are closed (normal operation), the power plant behaves like a conventional paralleled power plant, with all GEs on load sharing.
The presence of a tie breaker to separate segments ensures safe production, by isolating a critical or faulty segment and the generators connected to it, so that the failure does not impact the section of the power plant capable of producing.
GENSYS COMPACT PRIME and BTB COMPACT
In the application presented here, GENSYS COMPACT PRIME controllers are installed one per generator (7 in total), and BTB COMPACT controllers are installed one per tie breaker (2 in total), forming a 3-segment A, B and C control unit; all controllers are connected via the CRE Technology CAN bus.
GENSYS COMPACT PRIME are configured for automatic load-dependent start/stop management, based on the open/closed position of each segment (e.g.: if tie breaker 1 is open, and tie breaker 2 is closed, the five GEs 3 to 7 on segments B & C will automatically stop and start according to load, and the same applies to generators 1 and 2 on segment A).
To enable GEs to operate in the most critical situations, the « Load Shedding » function allows you to control motorized outgoing feeders supplying non-essential loads, to relieve the installation if the number of GEs available is insufficient.
